Most GPS navigators are now sensitive enough to pinpoint your location accurately when driving downtown, but only the HP iPAQ 310 Travel Companion ($449) can give you a 3D view of your surroundings, including tall buildings and all sorts of landmarks, in over 40 cities. The result is the immersing effect of driving through that city, whether it’s midtown Manhattan or the SoMa district in San Francisco.

3D Display

A 600-MHz dual-core processor displays these 3D images with impressive speed on a crisp 4.3-inch touchscreen. When you’re outside of these cities, you still get 3D digital elevation terrain data nationwide, including renderings of hills and valleys but also images of complex overlapping highway intersections.

Personalize Your Trip

Another advantage of this device is its ability to personalize your trip on http://www.ipaqnavigate.com/ using HP’s planning services and content partners. Drivers can then either download their itineraries from their PCs to the navigator or share that info with other iPAQ 310 owners online. The site will include geocoded points of interest not found on the device, and once you’re on the road, you’ll be able to navigate to them in any order you like.

iPAQ 310 Inspires More Road Trips

HP is also working on adding information about special events that will be going on at various destinations during the time of your visit. So not only will the iPAQ 310 make getting to your destination easier, but it will also inspire you to take road trips more often.
