Imagine building an ultra-low-cost laptop to bring learning and the Internet to children in developing nations. That was the utopian goal of the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) Association, and the XO is the result.

For just $188, governments and benefactors can equip a child with a rugged, kid-friendly PC that delivers the basics, along with mesh networking for collaborative learning. The 7.5-inch dual-mode display (equally viewable indoors and in bright sunlight) is a marvel, and OLPC has developed solar and manual charging options for locales where electricity is a luxury.
