Toshiba has just announced a whopping 15 new notebooks to fill its business, consumer, and gaming lines. Most notably, the company is introducing its first 12.1-inch widescreen notebook, a lighter 14.1-inch widescreen convertible, and an upgrade to one of the best bang-for-the-buck mobile gaming rigs. Read on for more details and check back soon for full reviews.

Backpack-Friendly Ultraportable
The Toshiba Satellite U205-S5002 and U205-5022 mark the company's first 4.1-pound ultraportable notebooks. The 12.1-inch widescreen laptops contain Intel Core Duo engines for strong multimedia performance, SuperMulti double-layer DVD drives, 1GB of RAM, the Express Media Player, Microsoft Office OneNote, and a 5-in-1 media adapter. The S5002 comes with a 100GB hard drive for $1,199, and the S5022 features a 120GB hard drive for $1,349.

Big-Screen Convertible
Students and mobile workers sick of filling out forms will appreciate the Toshiba R25-S3503, a 14.1-inch convertible tablet that packs a dual-core processor and Toshiba's exclusive LifeSmart Technology, a shock-absorbing system designed to secure your data. The S3503 allows users to work with a traditional keyboard or rotate and fold the display down for use as a tablet with digital pen input (complete with eraser). A Presentation button enables the S3503 to display the contents of your screen onto an LCD projector or external monitor. This model also contains 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi, a 5-in-1 media adapter, a double-layer DVD SuperMulti drive, a fingerprint reader, and a 100GB hard drive for $1,349.

Widescreen for Less
The Satellite M105 lineup is aimed at the consumer looking for a powerful notebook at a friendly price. Starting under $650, the M105-S1021 packs a 14.1-inch TruBrite display, 80GB hard drive, 512MB of RAM, an integrated DVD/CD-RW drive, and Windows XP Home Edition. The M105-S3041 ups the ante on the S1021 with an integrated DVD SuperMulti Drive, 5-in-1 memory card reader, and Express Media Player for playing DVDs and CDs without having to boot into Windows. That model starts at under $800. The high-end model in this line, the M105-S3064, starts at $1,199 and offers 1GB of RAM, a 120GB hard drive, a DVD SuperMulti Drive, a 5-in-1 media adapter, and a fingerprint reader.

Lightweight Gaming Powerhouse
For the Satellite P100 series, the ST9012, ST9412, and ST9612 are designed for the mobile gamer seeking next-generation power and performance without sacrificing portability. The new P100 models feature a 17-inch, widescreen display in a 7.1-pound, 1.41-inch frame. A powerful Nvidia GeForce Go 7900 GTX graphics card runs under the hood to deliver intense graphics for the hottest 3D titles and most demanding multimedia programs.

Other features include a fingerprint reader, a dual-mode touchpad that can be mapped with application shortcuts, built-in Harman Kardon speakers, a DVD SuperMulti double layer drive that writes in 11 formats, 802.11a/b/g, and an included infrared remote that lets consumers control the power, CD, DVD, and other multimedia functions without booting into Windows XP Professional. Connectivity options include S-Video, four USB ports, VGA, and a microphone port.

These models start at $1,999 and can be purchased directly from www.toshibadirect.com. Check back here at www.laptopmag.com for full reviews of these notebooks.
