Today, Intel announced a new brand designed to extend the benefits and features of the Intel vPro desktop processor technology into future high-end notebooks: Intel Centrino Pro.

 

With Intel Centrino Pro processor technology, IT departments will now be able to manage and protect company notebooks over Wi-Fi. In addition, administrators can manage both wired notebooks and desktop PCs regardless of power state or the health of the PC. This will lead to protected PCs, fewer desk-side visits, and fewer interruptions.

 

Currently, more than 200 businesses are poised to adopt Intel Centrino Pro including 3M, BMW, Fujifilm, ING, Johns Hopkins, Pioneer, and Verizon. Software applications and solutions specifically designed for Intel Centrino Pro are being offered from such companies as Altiris, CA Inc., Cisco, Credant Technologies, Hitachi JP1, HP, LANDesk, Microsoft, and Trend Micro. The acclaimed Core 2 Duo processors, which are at the heart of the platform, are expected to deliver outstanding performance, energy efficiency, and battery life.

 

In addition, a new wireless component, Intel Next Gen Wireless-N, will give users five times the performance as previous Wi-Fi specs and twice the wireless range. Vista users will experience improved graphics performance and support for the OS' Aero interface as well as the optional Intel Turbo Memory, which doubles the speed when loading frequently-used applications.

 

The Intel Centrino Pro processor technology is set to arrive in Q2 as part of the company's introduction of "Santa Rosa," the next-generation Centrino processor technology.
