Today, Symbol Technologies unveiled the first RF wireless switch that bridges the gap between Wi-Fi, RFID, and other wireless technologies. Symbol's RFS7000 RF switch supports and consolidates Wi-Fi, RFID, 802.11n, mesh, Voice over Wireless LAN (VoWLAN), and WiMAX, which businesses can use to efficiently deploy and manage wireless voice, data, and infrastructure devices.

The 802.11n-ready RFS7000 RF Switch can support up to 256 802.11a/b/g access ports and enables Layer 3 roaming, which allows mobile users to maintain a connection to high-bandwidth applications as they roam. Integration with Symbol's RF Management software lets businesses monitor and manage wireless devices to ensure maximum uptime and peak performance on a network.

Running on a Linux OS, the RFS7000 is designed for users to abandon piecemeal RF technology installations and allow them to leverage their investment on an ongoing basis rather than ripping and replacing hardware when it becomes obsolete.

The RFS7000 RF Switch will be available in select regions beginning in Q1 2007.
