SETUP The only puzzling step that occurred when installing this wireless network camera came when we tried to view the video image. Internet Explorer 6, which is required because of the ActiveX control used for video streaming, failed to recognize 4XEM as an approved Windows XP company. We had to lower IE's security settings even more than we did with other network cameras to make it work.

FEATURES The 4XEM IPCAMWLPTZ is essentially the exact same network camera as the D-Link DCS-6620G; the main difference between the two models involves tech support, documentation, and software. The 4XEM supports a 10X optical and 10X digital zoom, two-way audio monitoring, MPEG-4 and Motion JPEG video compression, and software to monitor up to 16 cameras. While 4XEM is not as well-known in the wireless industry as D-Link, the company's site contains an exceptional amount of information, and we found the tech support to be extremely friendly and helpful.

AUDIO/VIDEO QUALITY We noticed very little difference in video and audio quality between the 4XEM IPCAMWLPTZ and the D-Link DCS-6620G; the Pan, Tilt, and Zoom features are all identical. However, pointed at the exact same spot in a front yard, the 4XEM image looked slightly more colorful than the D-Link image.

VERDICT With features and a quality rating that match exactly with the D-Link DCS-6620G; the only real detriment we found here is that Internet Explorer failed to recognize the 4XEM ActiveX control correctly.
