For optimal versatility and depth of options, AVS’ solution excels. It not only mashes every imaginable format for portables, but also converts the many formats among one another. The software supports MPEG-4, MOV, DivX, and even RealMedia codecs. The profile choices get a bit overwhelming for rookies, but extensive bitrate, framerate, and audio quality options exist for experienced multimedia mavens. This is the only converter we tried that has a basic video editor for splitting and truncating clips. We had some, but not many, disappointing conversions. AVS kept pushing video to inaccessible areas of our iPod that stored media rather than making it available for playback. Even this wunderkind is not perfect, but it’s close.
