Altec Lansing iM11

Altec Lansing's excellent go-anywhere iM11 folds up into a sturdy, portable 8.5 x 4.3 x 1.4-inch package that can slip into a briefcase or backpack. The back of the unit sports a power jack, audio output port, and standard USB 2.0 port for synching your iPod without removing it from the fold-out dock. The battery compartment (for four AA cells) is on the back, though the iM11 also runs on AC power.
 
A handy kickstand keeps this fairly flat speaker from tipping over. The iM11 pumped out reasonably clear audio (given its size) on our tests, and the bass was audible if not particularly strong. Overall, this speaker delivers excellent value whether you're looking to pump up the volume in your cube or wake up to your favorite tunes at a hotel.
