This slender MiniDV cam from Canon slides nicely into your hand while offering some decent features, including a 2.7-inch display for 16:9 widescreen viewing, a 25X optical zoom, and a joystick on the LCD’s housing that makes accessing the ZR700’s settings a snap. Video quality was a bit blown out in daylight, with objects showing evidence of purple fringing when fully zoomed to 25X. In low light, image quality suffered from excessive noise, appearing slightly muddy. The camcorder’s performance is somewhat compensated for with cool features like a built-in sliding lens cover and Smooth Zoom Control, which allows you to select one of three zoom speeds for more cinematic shooting.
