When it comes to endurance, the Gateway M465-E shines with an optional 12-cell battery (included in this configuration) that lasts nearly seven hours, which is enough for a full day’s work. Priced at $1,693, this 15.4-inch dual-core notebook offers everything business users need to stay productive in and out of the office.

We like the sleek, no-nonsense design, as well as the four easily accessible USB 2.0 ports and a FireWire port on the side. A modular 8X DVD burner, a 6-in-1 memory card reader, and an S-Video output are also included. On the security front, Gateway has users covered with a TPM chip, a 90-day trial of McAfee Internet Security 2005, and Absolute Software’s Computrace Complete, the equivalent of LoJack for laptops.

The Gateway M465-E was a good, but not a great performer overall, with the 1.83-GHz Core Duo processor pacing the machine to a 213 MobileMark 2005 score. However, this notebook impressed us with wireless throughput of 17.8 Mbps and 16.9 Mbps at 5 and 50 feet, respectively, from our access point.

Gateway skimps a bit on productivity software, including only Microsoft Works 8.0, but the company includes a very generous three-year value service plan. If you need a long-lasting dual-core machine, the Gateway M465-E is it.
