The Gateway MP3 Photo Jukebox is so small, you're barely aware you're holding it in your hand. It's not particularly stylish, though, and the plastic feels a bit cheap.

The Gateway is one of two Windows Media-compatible players in this roundup that are compatible with the new Napster-To-Go service. Listening to MP3s is simple and easy to set up, and battery life is average for this group. The screen is reasonably bright and colorful, and works well for navigating the simple menu structure. For photos, however, the Gateway's size is its Achilles heel; the 1.6-inch display is simply too small. Unless someone's face takes up an entire photo, you'll barely be able to make out who you're looking at, and the blocky resolution doesn't help.

We couldn't find much else at fault with Gateway's entry, aside from the poor earphones; if you purchase one, plan on replacing these with a better set. The Gateway might not have the sexiest design, but it gets the job done.

Quick Tip

Create a slideshow

Highlight Pictures from the main menu and press the right side on the control pad. Select the folder you want and press the right side again. Navigate to any photo, and press the Option button. It doesn't matter which photo you select; all of the photos in the folder will be added to the slideshow. Move the cursor until it highlights New Slideshow and press the right side of the control pad. Finally, name your slideshow with the control pad and press the right side again when finished.
