The champagne-colored 6-MP Photosmart M537 doesn't look like it belongs in a roundup of entry-level digicams. Its solid build and 2.5-inch LCD make it easily blend in with higher-priced options. HP includes nine scene modes (with clear descriptions and sample images on screen), a 3X optical zoom, a Steady Photo anti-shake mode, and in-camera red-eye removal. On our tests, the M537 produced crisp shots both indoors and out. A photo of a colleague looked warm, and the focus was sharp. Yellows were a bit intense in a photo of a vase of tulips, but the photo looked acceptable. There aren't any manual controls on the M537, but beginners will be happy with the included presets. The only real downside is the relatively low QVGA resolution when shooting video.
