HP w2207A flexible 22-inch widescreen display that pivots and offers some nice multimedia extras.![]() Price:
$379
Part of HP's newly revamped line of consumer LCD monitors, the w2207 is a slick-looking 22-inch widescreen display featuring a highly adjustable stand and a handful of useful multimedia features.
The w2207 is designed to blend in with HP's Pavilion line of PCs, hence the high-gloss piano-black and silver finish. As with the ViewSonic VX2235wm, the shiny bezel is a fingerprint magnet, so keep a polishing cloth handy. The innovative stand consists of a rectangular base designed to stow your keyboard when not in use, and a thick dual-hinged arm that allows you to tilt the screen as well as pull it forward, push it backwards, and lower and raise it. Even better, the display can be rotated for viewing in Portrait mode--a great way to view Web pages or documents without scrolling. Another neat feature is a grooved bezel that lets you adorn the monitor with an assortment of optional Easy Clip clip-on accessories, including a webcam, a holder for your earbuds, and oddly enough, a small flower vase. Dual inputs (DVI and analog) share space with an audio-in jack and an upstream USB port on the rear of the display. The DVI port supports HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection), and the audio jack delivers sound from your PC to a pair of integrated two-watt speakers. To maintain a sleek, streamlined design, the speakers are embedded in the rear of the display and fire backwards, which means you'll have to crank up the volume to hear them. Two USB ports are conveniently positioned on the left side of the display, where it's easy to plug in thumbdrives and other USB peripherals, and a pair of sturdy cable clips helps to keep your workspace free of clutter. The w2207 produces a very sharp, bright picture and does a good job of displaying small text, but as with many other monitors, including the Gateway FPD2275W, light grayscale performance is slightly weak. As a result, very light shades of gray appeared white on our test photos, but color quality was not affected by the flaw. The glossy BrightView coated screen delivers vivid colors and excellent viewing angles, but it can be a bit too reflective under the brightest of lighting conditions. Still, movies and games looked smooth and error-free on the five-millisecond panel. HP covers the monitor with a one-year parts and labor warranty, but we think a three-year deal should be standard issue for this type of display. Unfortunately, HP doesn't currently offer a three-year upgrade. If you're looking for a flexible 22-inch widescreen display that pivots and offers some nice multimedia extras, the HP w2207 is a solid choice. Suggested Stories:
