MyWebEx PCRemote Access for Nothing![]() Price: Free
by Timothy Captain WebEx Communications is known for its Web conferencing software and services, but now it’s getting into remote access. Despite a few first-generation glitches, the results are mostly good.
Setting up MyWebEx PC was a breeze. After going to their Web site and creating a new account from our host PC, we selected the Add Computer option and installed the small control applet onto the system. We then logged onto that Web site from our second PC, downloaded the client utility, and clicked the link to connect to the host PC. MyWebEx PC didn’t have any trouble with our software firewalls, and its 128-bit encryption is enough to protect your data from hackers. The very first time we used MyWebEx PC, we were immediately taken by how perfectly it rendered the remote PC’s desktop. Unlike every other remote access service, MyWebEx PC isn’t limited to mere 256-color graphics. It offers 24-bit true color support that can render 16.7 million colors. As a result, our remote PC’s visual output looked every bit as crisp from 15 miles away as it did when we were in front of it. Despite its true color support, MyWebEx PC isn’t as polished as LogMeIn. It can’t scale the resolution of the remote PC to match that of the PC you’re using. Performing tasks like opening applications or moving files on the remote PC felt sluggish compared to LogMeIn. MyWebEx PC is very new, and we suspect that once the company works out the kinks it will be in the same league as GoToMyPC. We look forward to testing this service again in a few months to see how its performance improves. www.mywebexpc.com Featured Site Sponsors
