Thank Netgear for stirring up the wireless music player market. Its MP101 box, presumably designed to sit in your entertainment center, flawlessly streams MP3 and WMA files over an 802.11b network. With an easy-to-read LCD that displays album and track information, the MP101 works better and streams more smoothly than much of the aging competition.

The big news, though, is that the device supports the Real Rhapsody service. While this may not seem monumental, it means you can sign up for the service and enjoy a vast warehouse of digital music from any corner of your home. A free 30-day trial is included with purchase.

It took just a few button presses on the remote for the Netgear to find our network. The device will read files directly from a network share after you install a simple Netgear server applet. While the MP101 does support RCA audio connections, it does not provide digital optical or coaxial connections. But, for anyone who just wants to make music listening as easy and mobile as possible, the MP101 does the trick.
