Sonic Impact’s entry has the most innovative design. True to its name, the iFusion is a clever and fairly seamless combination of speaker dock and nylon carrying case. Unzipping it reveals the speakers and dock, each permanently attached to one side of the case’s interior. Straps hang down from either side, which when connected allow the speaker and dock to sit at a 90 degree angle. Storage spaces for the iPod and earbuds are located between the speakers and in front of the dock, respectively. Another nice touch: there’s a lighted battery meter between the storage compartment and the dock.

That the system is permanently fixed to the case is a bit of a drawback, assuring that the iFusion won’t land itself on too many office bookcases in the near future. The speakers’ are also surprisingly heavy at 2.4 pounds. The sound was better than we expected from the system’s two small speakers. but ultimately we liked the Altec Lansing iM5 and Logitech mm50 better. The iFusion is a neat idea; we only wish the design was more flexible.

Other iPod Speakers
Altec Lansing iM5
Bose SoundDock
Kensington SX2000
Klipsch iGroove
Logitech mm50
